I noticed how I really don't do a lot of expressions in my artwork. So Last week or so ago I started to work on one of those "expressions meme" to work those expressive artsy muscles.

This was a LOT harder than I thought it would be lol. I drew 2, 3 times more than shown but there was a lot that just didn't work -- Not only was I trying to keep the quality of art up, I was trying to have the expression look convincing, the expressions match the personality of the character, and draw the character consistently o_O;;

Frankly I think I fail at consistency and I'm rusty with expressions, so this was tough... but a really good exercise.

Even though it's hard I'd like to finish the rest of the expressions, but for now I wanted to post what I did accomplish.






I choose to do my elf Colin because he's rather expressive and overall just a really interesting character (in my humble opinion). I dunno if I really did him justice and it's difficult to choose a "degree" of expression since certain situations call for different degrees of reaction. Overall I tried to keep it from going tooo unrealistic in the expressions for the sake of practice. I've done a lot of simplified comic type art so exaggerated expressions aren't that difficult for me.



The expressions shown:

Envy:
I loved how Colin looks in this one, but he might look more "angry" than envious :/ but I wanted it to be rather subtle (hopefully it's not too subtle). Even though I see Colin as this really comical and expressive character, he's has more a silent and serious way of dealing with less happy emotions.

Happy:
Hehe, just cute (maybe too cute) just a really sincere kind of happy. He's not afraid to show it

Embarrassment:
I kinda wanted him to look a little more ruffled than this xD Not expressive enough! but it's cute

Disgust:
LoL I love odd faces XD I'm not sure what he's seeing but he doesn't really like it.

Hysteria:
I was laughing the whole time with this one >w<
Just utter OMG panic XD

Anticipation:
LoL... this was sorta a goof-ball one. I was tired and was failing so much that I stopped trying and drew weird random stuff. Not really what I wanted but it was cute XD Colin is doing the "love me... love me not" with a flower.

The caption underneath him says "elf wouldn't be doing this to a flower"





For any inquiring minds, Colin is a character for a game I'm plotting out. Eventually he'll make his debut online in a downloadable otome flash game xD
